About the rule

What it is

The Federal Records Act requires every federal agency to make and preserve records that document its organization, functions, decisions and transactions, and to dispose of them only under schedules approved by the Archivist of the United States. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) issues the regulations that implement it, including requirements for electronic records and email.
