About the rule
What it is
The information blocking rules in 45 CFR Part 171 implement the 21st Century Cures Act. Issued by the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), they prohibit health care providers, developers of certified health IT and health information networks or exchanges from practices likely to interfere with the access, exchange or use of electronic health information, unless an exception in the rule applies.
