About the rule

What it is

FIPS 140-3, Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules, is the NIST standard that US federal agencies rely on for the cryptographic modules that protect sensitive information; it replaced FIPS 140-2. Modules are tested by accredited laboratories and validated under the Cryptographic Module Validation Program, which NIST runs jointly with the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.
