About the rule

What it is

The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) is a model law, approved by the Uniform Law Commission in 1999, that gives electronic records and signatures the same legal effect as paper ones in transactions where the parties have agreed to deal electronically. Nearly every state has enacted it; New York has its own electronic signatures law instead.
