Wealth Transfer & Estate Visualization

Map a family's trusts and entities, and model how wealth transfer strategies play out, in one shared picture

Overview

What you are buying

Wealth Transfer & Estate Visualization lets advisors and family office teams map who owns what across trusts, entities and individuals, and show how assets move at death or under a planned transfer. Planners model strategies such as grantor retained annuity trusts and charitable lead annuity trusts with the assumptions written down, and compare them side by side. Every illustration is reviewed before it reaches the family, and the attorneys and tax advisers who give legal and tax advice keep that role.

The problem it solves

For high-net-worth families, the estate plan lives in a stack of trust instruments, entity documents and attorney memos, and the picture of how it all fits together is a diagram someone drew once in presentation software. When a GRAT matures, an asset is sold or a beneficiary changes, the diagram is out of date. Projections of transfer taxes and remainder values are built in spreadsheets with assumptions that are hard to see, and different advisers to the same family work from different versions.

  • Trust and entity diagrams are drawn by hand and go stale
  • Projections hide their assumptions inside spreadsheets
  • Comparing strategies side by side means rebuilding the model each time
  • Attorneys, tax advisers and the family see different versions of the plan

  • Wealth planners and advisors at private banks, trust companies and RIAs
  • Single- and multi-family office teams
  • Estate attorneys and tax advisers who collaborate on a family's plan

A short walkthrough

Illustrative screens with fictional sample data. They show the workflow, not any client’s data or configuration, and the layout of the product itself differs. A live demonstration uses the product with sample data.

  1. Step 1

    The planner's families

Planners start from their families, with the structures that need attention and upcoming plan events.

Workflows

The principal workflows

  1. Map

The planner builds the family's structure: individuals, trusts, entities and accounts, with ownership percentages, trustees, beneficiaries and the key terms of each instrument.

    • Family members, trusts and entities added from documents and account data
    • Ownership and beneficial interests recorded with percentages
    • Trustees, powers and key dispositive terms summarized from the instruments
    • Account values linked from custodial or portfolio data
    • Source documents attached to each node
  2. Model

Strategies are modeled on the current structure, with every assumption visible: growth and yield, the Section 7520 rate used, annuity terms, exemption amounts the planner enters, and timing.

    • Planner chooses a strategy such as a GRAT, CLAT, gift or sale to a trust
    • Assumptions entered or taken from the firm's approved defaults
    • Projected values, remainder interests and transfer tax effects calculated
    • Sensitivity runs across growth and rate assumptions
    • Scenario saved with its assumptions and version
  3. Compare and review

Scenarios are compared with the current plan, and the illustration is reviewed by the family's attorney or tax adviser and, where your policies require it, by compliance before it is shared.

    • Scenarios placed side by side against the current plan
    • Attorney or tax adviser comments recorded on the scenario
    • Compliance reviews the illustration and required disclosures
    • Approved illustration released to the family view
  4. Share and maintain

The family sees an approved, plain-language view of their plan. When the plan changes, the map is updated from the new documents and every earlier version is kept.

    • Family members see the approved diagrams and summaries their access allows
    • Events such as a GRAT annuity payment or trust termination tracked
    • Changes recorded from new or amended documents
    • Earlier versions of the map and scenarios kept for reference

How access is controlled

  • Nobody approves an illustration or a change to firm defaults that they prepared themselves.
  • Access is limited family by family: planners and outside advisers see only the families they are assigned or invited to, and each family member sees only what the plan's owners permit.
  • Every permission change and invitation is recorded in the audit trail, and access review reports support periodic certification.
  • Firm staff sign in through your identity provider; outside advisers and family members sign in with multi-factor authentication.

Exports, access and evidence

  • Reports can be exported to CSV, and summary and evidence reports to PDF. Client-facing PDFs are available only for approved illustrations.
  • Filters can be saved, so a planner or compliance reviewer can keep their own views.
  • Structure and scenario summaries are available through the Moraph Work API for your own reporting tools.
  • Reports respect each viewer's access: planners see their families, compliance sees all illustrations, and family members never see internal reports.
  • Released illustrations are kept exactly as presented. Running and exporting a report is recorded in the audit trail.

Deployment

Where and how it runs

Moraph cloud

Hosted and operated by Moraph in the United States region. United Kingdom and Australia regions are available for firms outside the US.

Dedicated environment

A single-tenant environment for firms or family offices whose policies require isolation, scoped in the proposal.

Branded family view

The family view can carry your firm's name and domain.

Security controls, independent audits and data residency are set out in our Trust Center. Engagement models and what drives a quotation are on Working with Moraph.

Implementation

What a rollout involves

The general phases are on Working with Moraph. For this product, they involve the following.

Data connections

We connect custodial, portfolio and CRM data and agree the schedule. We need a contact for each source system.

Firm defaults

Default assumptions, rate tables and calculation methods are set with your tax team and documented.

Disclosures and review

Disclosure templates and the illustration review path are configured with your compliance team.

Pilot families

Planners map a small number of families selected by you, using fictional or consented data, and test the views with their outside advisers.

Access and roles

Roles, family assignments and the rules for external access are set to match your policies.

Training and rollout

Planners, tax analysts and compliance reviewers are trained on their own steps before families are added more widely.

Limitations

What it does not do

Worth knowing before you evaluate it.

  • The product does not give legal, tax or investment advice. Strategies are modeled for discussion; the family's attorneys and tax advisers decide what is appropriate.
  • Projections depend on the assumptions entered and are illustrations, not predictions or guarantees of future values or tax outcomes.
  • It does not draft trust instruments or other legal documents; it records the terms your team summarizes from them.
  • Tax calculations cover US federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes. State estate and inheritance taxes and taxes in other countries are not modeled.
  • Exemption amounts and rates are entered by your team or loaded from published tables; your tax analyst confirms them.
  • It does not prepare or file gift or estate tax returns.
  • Values are only as current as the custodial and portfolio data you connect; assets held elsewhere must be entered manually.
  • It is not a trust accounting system and does not process trust distributions or payments.

Evaluation checklist

What to test in a demonstration or pilot

Questions worth putting to us, and to any other vendor you are considering.

  1. Map a fictional family with several trusts and entities and check the diagram is readable
  2. Model a GRAT and a CLAT and ask your tax team to check the calculations
  3. Confirm every projection shows the assumptions behind it
  4. Run an illustration through review and confirm it cannot be released without approval
  5. Check what an outside attorney and a family member can each see
  6. Review the archive of released illustrations your compliance team would rely on

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the product give tax or legal advice?

No. It maps the plan and models strategies with visible assumptions. The family's attorneys and tax advisers decide what is appropriate.

Can outside attorneys and CPAs use it?

Yes. They can be invited to the families they advise, where they can comment and upload documents but not change the plan.

Which strategies can be modeled?

Grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable lead annuity trusts, outright gifts and sales to grantor trusts, compared with the current plan. Additional strategies can be scoped during implementation.

Who owns the data?

Your firm and its clients do. How it is returned and deleted at the end of the agreement is set out in the contract.

How is it priced?

As a subscription, usually measured by the number of planners and families, with implementation charged separately. See Working with Moraph for what drives a quotation.

Is there an accessibility conformance report?

Ask for one through the procurement request form at /how-to-buy/request, naming the version you are evaluating.
