About the rule
What it is
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), part of the US Department of the Treasury, administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals. Its regulations, in 31 CFR Chapter V, generally prohibit US persons from dealing with sanctioned countries and with the people and entities on its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List, so financial institutions screen customers and transactions against those lists.
