Infection Control & Contact Tracing
Infection Control & Contact Tracing reconstructs where patients and staff were inside your facility from admission, transfer and bed data, care team assignments and, where you have one, your real-time location system. When a case is confirmed, your infection preventionists see the people who may have been exposed, decide who needs follow-up, and track isolation, testing and employee health actions to completion. During an outbreak the same records show how cases are connected across units and time.
Principal workflows
- Detect: Positive results for organisms and conditions you choose arrive from your laboratory system and open an index case for an infection preventionist to review.
- Trace: For the exposure window, the product lists the patients who shared a room or unit with the case and the staff assigned to them, using bed movements, care team assignments and location data where available.
- Follow up: Exposed patients go to their units for isolation or testing actions, and exposed staff go to employee health, with each action tracked to completion.
- Manage outbreaks: When cases are linked, they are grouped into an outbreak with a timeline, a unit map and a record of control measures, ready for leadership and the health department.
Who uses it
- Infection preventionists and hospital epidemiologists
- Employee and occupational health teams who follow up exposed staff
- Nurse managers and unit leaders who act on isolation and cohorting decisions
- Quality and patient safety leaders who report healthcare-associated infections
- Emergency management teams who coordinate outbreak response
Reporting
- Open cases, contacts and overdue follow-ups
- Isolation status by unit
- Outbreak summaries and epidemic curves
- Health department line lists, released by your staff
- Cases by organism and unit over time
- Organism rule history for surveyors
Features
- Location history: A patient's rooms, beds and units over any period, assembled from admission, discharge and transfer messages and shown as a timeline.
- Contact lists: Patients and staff who overlapped with a case in the exposure window, each with the type of contact, place and length of overlap.
- Organism rules: Exposure windows, contact definitions and follow-up actions set per organism or condition by your infection prevention team.
- Real-time location data: Where your facility has a real-time location system, badge and tag data adds staff and equipment proximity to the contact list.
- Exposure review: Infection preventionists decide who is considered exposed; the product proposes contacts and records each decision and its reason.
- Patient follow-up tracking: Isolation, testing and other actions for exposed patients, assigned to units and tracked until they are complete.
- Employee health handoff: Staff exposures sent to employee health with the date, type and place of exposure, and work restriction and testing decisions recorded there.
- Outbreak workspace: Linked cases, an epidemic curve, a unit timeline and a record of control measures for each outbreak.
- Unit and room view: Who occupied a room or unit over a chosen period, for exposures linked to a place, such as a contaminated room or shared equipment.
- Health department line lists: Line lists and case summaries in the format your health department asks for, prepared by your staff and released by them.
- Isolation status board: Patients on transmission-based precautions by unit, with the reason and when precautions were started.
- Equipment exposure tracing: Where equipment is tracked, the patients a shared device was used with between cleanings, to support device-related investigations.
Integrations
- Laboratory information system: Positive results for the organisms and conditions on your watch list, received by HL7 interface.
- EHR admission, discharge and transfer: Patient admissions, bed moves and discharges, used to build location histories.
- Staff scheduling and assignments: Shift schedules and patient assignments from your staffing or nurse assignment system, so staff contacts reflect who cared for the patient.
- Real-time location system: Where installed, badge and tag locations for staff and equipment add proximity detail to contact lists.
- Employee health system: Staff exposures sent to the employee health system you use, or worked in the product's employee health view.
- Public health reporting: Line lists and case summaries exported for your staff to submit to the health department or NHSN through their own channels.
- Single sign-on: Staff sign in through your identity provider (SAML or OpenID Connect).
- Work API: Case, contact and outbreak data available to your data warehouse through the Moraph Work API.
Deployment
- Moraph cloud: Hosted and operated by Moraph in the United States region, with interfaces to your laboratory, EHR and staffing systems.
- Dedicated environment: A single-tenant environment for health systems whose policies require isolation, scoped in the proposal.
- Health system deployment: One deployment across several facilities, so staff and patients who move between them can be traced, with each facility's team seeing its own work.
Security and privacy
- Single sign-on: Staff sign in through your identity provider, so your password and multi-factor policies apply.
- Role-based access: What each person sees follows their role and unit, and employee health information is visible only to employee health.
- Business associate agreement: Moraph signs a business associate agreement with your organization, because the product processes protected health information.
- Encryption and keys: Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with keys Moraph staff cannot use without explicit, time-bound authorization.
- Complete audit trail: Every view, decision, export and report release is logged with the person and time, and cannot be edited.
- US hosting: Data is hosted in Moraph's United States region; every release passes security testing gates and ships with a software bill of materials.
Limitations
- Contact lists are only as complete as the location, assignment and schedule data you provide. Without a real-time location system, contacts are based on rooms, units and assignments, not proximity.
- It does not decide who is exposed. It proposes contacts under rules your team sets, and infection preventionists make and record each decision.
- It is not a laboratory system or an EHR, and it does not place isolation orders; it tracks the actions your staff take in those systems.
- It does not submit reports to the health department or NHSN. Your staff review, approve and submit them through their own channels.
- Visitors and contractors are traced only where your facility records their location, such as through a visitor management system you connect.
- It does not provide clinical guidance on treatment or prophylaxis; follow-up actions are the ones your policies define.
- Employee health workflows follow your policies and applicable employment law; the product records decisions but does not set work restriction criteria.
- It is designed for US facilities and reporting requirements; public health reporting formats in other countries are not included.
